As an employee of Checkmate Electronics, research was done to improve check recognition algorithms in the competitive market of point of sale check readers. Via use of voice processing algorithms such as time warping and resampling, significant cost was reduced from the Checkmate reader while actually improving the read rate of over prior readers. The improved algorithm had reduced character substitutions and reduced "unable to read" characters.
